This is a quick tour of the controls of the shado workbench.

workbench

  • host sync lock: when the check box is enabled, the workbench attempts to synchronise to a ReWire host and generate clock values corresponding to the host's transport position
  • manual clock: this is a local beat clock for standalone operation, with a cueable location and variable tempo
  • manual 10msec metronome: a fixed-rate generator of clock ticks at a 10 millisecond interval (i.e. 100 per second), used in the demo and tutorial scripts for monome animation and timing effects
  • interaction is a display showing button presses coming in from the monome, and also the pitches of any MIDI notes being created by scripts
  • create MIDI menu is a button which generates a pulldown menu of all the available MIDI devices to which notes can be sent
  • available scripts: a collection of prepackaged demonstration scripts which can be selected by clicking on the name tabs
  • list text files: populates a pulldown menu with the names of the all the text files in the script directory. The files we are interested in are those with a name ending in .py
  • "ABOUT" box: a message area where each script can post a short paragraph of documentation
  • reload python: a button to completely reset the Python interpreter, used to force a reload of scripts when other source files are altered
