What
The
shado workbench is a free Max patcher which can be used for developing monome-based MIDI applications using the Python scripting language. It is also used in the
shado tutorials.

The workbench has an internal beat clock, or can synchronise to a sequencer application via
ReWire. As well as driving a monome, it can generate MIDI data.
Why
We want to encourage the development of free, script-based monome applications based on the open-source
shado rendering library, and see code and techniques being shared between users. Python is a simple but powerful language, and we have a series of
tutorials to hopefully get people started.
How
The workbench will work in the free Max5 Runtime (available
here), and you can develop and use your own scripts - a full licence for Max5 is not required. If you
do have a Max5 licence, you can of course modify the workbench for your own needs.
Where
The workbench is included in the free
shado download.
What Next?
The
tutorials start with installation and testing instructions, and then introduce the features of the workbench and the
shado system.
